RICHMOND, Va. - With the track season still a couple of months away, VCU Athletics Communications Student Assistant Andrew Phillips caught up with senior sprinter Donnie Seward to see what keeps him running through the off season.
AP: Why did you choose to come VCU?
DS: I was not going to attended college at all at first, until the coaching staff recruited me. VCU is close to home, and I never thought I could go to VCU, so when the offer came I jumped on it.
AP: What is your major and why?
DS: My major is Criminal Justice because I'm fascinated with the criminal justice system and how it works, from the streets all the way to the judge and to jail
AP: Best moment here at VCU?
DS: Breaking a 15 year old school record in the 500 meters. On campus everyday is a best moment seeing all the different types of people walking around.
AP: Who influenced you to get involved with track and field?
DS: My middle school PE teacher Ms. Smith influenced me to get involved with track and field. She noticed my speed, and started taking me to middle school track meets and to high schools to watch older runners.
AP: Sport you would play other then track and field?
DS: I would play football if I did not run track. I was talented in football as well.
AP: What do you want to do after college?
DS: After college I want to be a coach or mentor.
