RICHMOND, Va. – VCU's stunning postseason run will continue when the Rams take on 12th-ranked North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 12 in at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Rams (14-11), who earned the Atlantic 10 Conference's automatic bid following a heart-pounding string of close wins at the league tournament last weekend, will be making their first NCAA appearance since 2013. It will be VCU's 21st NCAA berth in 27 seasons under Coach Paul Kostin.
VCU, led by seniors Daryl Monfils and fifth-year graduate transfer Marten Jonsson, will take on a UNC lineup that includes 21st-ranked singles player Ronnie Schneider, as well as No. 28 William Blumberg and No. 106 Robert Kelly. The Tar Heels (24-4) reached the semifinals of the ACC Tournament before falling to No. 3 Virginia. UNC is the ninth overall seed in the tournament.
The winner of the VCU-North Carolina match will advance to take on the winner of South Carolina and East Tennessee State on Saturday, May 13.
