The short story: Freshman Ignacio Rivero Crespo scored a match-clinching victory on the No. 5 singles court as VCU edged past Saint Louis Friday in Atlantic 10 Conference Quarterfinal action in Orlando, Florida.

FIRST SERVE
  • Crespo, a native of Mallorca, Spain, withstood a challenge from Saint Louis' Paarth Dodhiawala, but managed to grind out a 7-5, 7-5 win to give the Rams the match.
  • Saint Louis captured the doubles point, but VCU rattled off victories on the No. 6, 3 and 4 court to charge out to a 3-1 lead. The Billikens did not go quietly, however, earning three-set wins at No. 1 and 2 to tie the score.
  • Arvid Noren and Victor Lima, winners on the No. 3 and 4 courts, respectively, for VCU, also teamed for a doubles win on the No. 2 court.
