The short story: For the fourth consecutive match, the Rams dominated their opponent by winning 6-1 Thursday afternoon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center. With the match tied 1-1, The Black and Gold reeled off five straight points in singles play to defeat St. John's.

FIRST SERVE

  • Seniors Daryl Monfils and Marten Jonsson got off to a hot start on the doubles court. They defeated St. John's Ornjen Trejgut and Daniel Skripnlk, 6-2. The duo is now 10-4 in doubles play this season.  
  • Shortly after Javier Amantegui and Louis Ishizaka secured the doubles point and put VCU up 1-0 by downing Alex Rozkowski and Roberto Livi, 6-4. The pair is now a perfect 3-0 in dual matches thus far.
  • With the match tied at one a piece, sophomore Arvid Noren won in consecutive sets, 6-3, 6-3. He holds a 10-2 dual record in singles play this season.
  • Monfils put the Rams ahead 3-1 by defeating Roberto Livi in a three match set. The veteran is 10-5 overall on the year.
  • Amantegui also won in consecutive sets to put the Rams out of reach at 4-1. He defeated Alex Roszkowski, 6-0, 6-2.
  • Freshman Ignacio Rivero Crespo picked up the fifth point for The Black and Gold. The rookie holds a 6-4 singles record thus far.
  • Ishizaka secured the final point for the Rams to end the match at 6-1. He defeated Freddy Ruiz Acevedo, 6-4, 6-1 and picked up his 12th win of the season.
