The short story:
The Rams dominated Winthrop 7-0 at the Thalhimer Tennis Center on Friday morning. The Black and Gold got off to a hot start to earn the first point of the match in doubles play and never looked back. VCU is now a perfect 5-0 in home matches this season.

FIRST SERVE

  • Javier Amantegui and Arvid Noren picked up the first doubles win of the match. The two defeated Hunter Benefield and Joshua Ryan with a commanding score of 6-1.
  • Seniors Daryl Monfils and Marten Jonsson remain solid in doubles play. After Winthrop tied things up in doubles play, the pair downed Gabriel Dias and Leandros Pappayiannis to earn the lone doubles point of the match. The veteran duo is now 2-0 in dual matches this season.
  • With his singles win, Amantegui possesses a team high 12 overall wins in singles play.  
  • Vitor Lima picked up the second point of the match with a singles victory over Pappayiannis.
  • Sophomore Arvid Noren recorded the next point for the Rams as he won in consecutive sets. He now holds a perfect 4-0 record in dual matches.
  • Newcomer Ignacio Rivero Crespo continues his strong play. By defeating Winthrops Gabriel Dias, he is now 2-0 in his young career.
