RAMS SWEEP IN-STATE RIVAL NORFOLK STATE, 7-0

The Basics

  • The Short Story: All six Rams recorded straight set wins as the VCU men's tennis rolled past in-state foe Norfolk State, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon. In addition, the Black & Gold swept the doubles action to complete the shutout.
How It Happened
  • With impending rain, the squads started with singles action, beginning with a straight set victory by Jean-Baptiste Mateo at #3 singles.
  • Senior Alejandro Argente made it 2-0 in favor of the Rams with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Robin Riethmueller at #2 singles.
  • Freshman Wilder Pimentel pushed it to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win of his own at the sixth singles spot.
  • Sophomore Michal Voscek secured the win for the Black & Gold with a 6-4, 6-2 win over  Peter Ramstromer-Pello at #4 singles.
  • Alexis Heugas and Vuk Velickovic added singles victories of their own to complete singles action.
  • Mateo and Argente continued the momentum in doubles action with an easy 1-0 win at #3 doubles. Heugas and Nick Jones, as well as Voscek and Pimentel, teamed up for 8-5 wins to complete the sweep for the Rams.
