The Short Story: Upperclassmen Max Wennakoski and Alexis Heugas, along with freshman Dylan McCloskey, picked up singles victories, but it wasn't enough as the 24th-ranked VCU men's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to visiting Memphis.

How It Happened

  • Memphis came out swinging, taking the doubles point with easy 8-3 and 8-4 wins at the first and third double spots.
  • McCloskey evened things up quickly for the Rams, dropping David O'Hare, 6-3, 6-1 at the six spot in the singles lineup.
  • Heugas followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Joe Salisbury at the second singles spot to give VCU a 2-1 lead.
  • After Memphis took two singles win to reclaim a 3-2 advantage, Wennakoski finished off a hard-fought win over Connor Glennon, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) to even the score.
  • However, the Tigers  won a tough three-set singles match at the fifth singles spot, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 to secure the win.
