NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - March has been good to the VCU men's tennis team. They've won four out of their five matches this month, and this week it was announced that for the first time in four years the Rams were ranked in the ITA top-25.
However the good news doesn't stop there, senior Max Wennakoski was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Co-Performer of the Week. He shares the honor with sophore Alex Calott of Charlotte.
The nationally ranked player (No. 21) posted two singles victories for VCU last week against Penn and Wake Forest.
Wennakoski knocked down No.24 Wake Forest's David Hopkins (6-4, 3-6, 6-3), helping his team to win the outing 4-2. The senior also showed up in the March 16 match against Penn. He saw personal victory at the number one spot against Ismael Lahlou (6-4, 6-3). VCU defeated Penn 4-0, making their overall record 14-4.
This weekend the Rams take on conference rivals Charlotte (Fri. March 22 at 2:00 p.m.) and George Washington (Sun. March 24 at 1:00 p.m.). Both matches are at home.
