RAMS DROP 7-0 DECISION TO FOURTH-RANKED DUKE

The Basics

  • Score: #4 Duke 7, #28 VCU 0
  • Records: VCU (11-4), Duke (12-2)
  • Location: Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center - Durham, N.C.
  • The Short Story: VCU had its five-match win streak come to an end at the hands of fourth-ranked Duke, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon. After the match was moved inside due to weather conditions, the Blue Devils took the doubles point to grab momentum right away. Their success continued on the singles court, where Duke sports five of the country's top 70 players.

How It Happened

  • Facing three of the nation's top 50 doubles duos, the Rams couldn't get anything going, dropping 8-2 and 8-3 decisions at the first and third doubles spots to concede the doubles point to the Blue Devils.
  • Senior Max Wennakoski gave #46 Fred Saba all he could handle, but dropped a 6-2,4-6,1-0 (10-8) decision at the second singles spot. Classmate Jaime Vazquez also took his opponent to a third set tiebreak, but dropped that match as well.
