NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - There's something about playing that final season that brings out the best in college seniors.

Senior Jaime Vazquez of the VCU men's tennis team is no different. The La Coruna, Spain native is off to a perfect 4-0 start this spring and his strong start earned him the first Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week accolade of the 2013 season.

With a 7-5, 6-4 win over Minnesota's Brendan Ruddock over the weekend, Vazquez extended his spring-season winning streak to 13 consecutive singles victories dating back to Mar. 3 of last year. He entered the preseason ranked #113 on the singles side and looks to move up the charts when the new rankings come out.

On the doubles side, Vazquez has teamed with junior Alejandro Argente to form the nation's 36th-ranked doubles duo . The pair is off to a perfect 3-0 mark this spring, including two wins at the ITA Kickoff Weekend over doubles pairings from Minnesota and sixth-ranked Georgia.

Vazquez and the Rams are back in action this weekend when they host North Florida on Saturday. First serve at Thalhimer Tennis Center is set for 1 p.m.
