RICHMOND, Va. – While most of the students at VCU were headed to off to spring break, the VCU men's tennis team kicked off their week of no classes by getting back in the win column for the 13th time this year.
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Thalhimer Tennis Center, the Rams rolled to an easy 6-1 victory over Atlantic-10 foe, Temple, to improve to 13-4 on the year. The Black & Gold are now 25-2 at home over the past two seasons.
VCU got thing started by breezing to victories in all three doubles matches led by sophomore Alejandro Argente and junior Jaime Vazquez, who took down Taylor Hairston and Mansur Gishkaev, 8-1, at the third doubles position.
Senior Filip Svensson kept the momentum with the Rams during the singles matches as the veteran dominated Gishkaev at the third singles spot, 6-0, 6-1. Junior Max Wennakoski was right behind Svensson, taking down Filip Rams, 6-2, 6-2 at the top singles position.
All five Rams who won their singles matches did so in straight set fashion.
The Black & Gold have little time to rest on their victory as they host a talented South Florida squad on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
