WIMBLEDON, England – Maybe it was a bit of foreshadowing, but on the same day that the VCU men's basketball team was nominated for an ESPY in the category of "Biggest Upset", a former Ram tennis star did a little upsetting of his own.
Frank Moser, a two-time All-American as a Ram, teamed with fellow German Matthias Bachinger to upset the former number one player in the world, Llyeton Hewitt and his partner Peter Luczak. Moser and his partner dropped the Australian duo in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
This is actually not the first time Moser has reached the second round in the Gentlemen's Doubles bracket at Wimbledon. He accomplished the same feat back in 2009, his only other trip to the prestigious tournament.
Moser is making his fourth appearance at a Grand Slam Event, competing in the French Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open during the 2009 campaign.
The former Black & Gold star and his partner will now take on 12th-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela and Eduardo Schwank from Argentina on Saturday.
