RICHMOND, Va. – It's tough for any tennis team to start a season better than the way Virginia Commonwealth University men's squad has begun the spring campaign. The Black & Gold have not only posted six straight victories to start the year, but they haven't even dropped a set.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rams grabbed two more 5-0 victories over Norfolk State and Longwood to wrap up a perfect weekend at the VCU 4-1 Invitational at Thalhimer Tennis Center.

"It's a good way to start the year, but it doesn't mean we can expect this every time out," Head Coach Paul Kostin said. "We have to stay hungry and continue to work on improving each time we step on the courts."

Junior Filip Svennson had a stellar afternoon, dropping just one game in his two matches. Against Norfolk State, he toppled Jon Sessom, 6-1, 6-0 and he followed that up with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Longwood's Milo Barajas-Alexander.

Svennson wasn't the only Ram to post two singles victories on the day as senior Tim Johannsen and sophomore Max Wennakoski did the same in the top two spots of VCU's lineup.

In doubles action, sophomore Camill Salomon teamed with both Antoine Baroz and Jamie Vazquez Catoira to grab straight set victories.

The Rams return to action on Friday afternoon as the Big Red of Cornell University visit Thalhimer Tennis Center for a 2:30 p.m. match.
