RAMS MOVE INTO CAA SEMIFINALS WITH 4-0 OF SEVENTH-SEEDED DELAWARE
NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore
Filip Svensson (Angelholm, Sweden) and freshman
Krisztian Kroscko (Budapest, Hungary) sparked the
Virginia Commonwealth University men's tennis team to an easy 4-0
win over seventh-seeded Delaware in the quarterfinals of the
Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Friday.
Krocsko teamed with CAA Player of the Year Thibaut Charron
(Sens, France) to pick up an 8-5 win at #1 doubles, while
Svensson and freshman Max Wennakoski (Helsinki,
Finland) secured the doubles point for the Black &
Gold with an 8-3 victory at #3 doubles.
Junior Tim Johanssen (Hohenlockstedt, Germany)
made quick work of Delaware's Gokay Celik at #2 singles, 6-1, 6-1
to push VCU to a 2-0 lead.
Enter Svensson and Krocsko, who each picked straight sets at #6
and #3 respectively, to lock down the win and help the Rams advance
to face third-seeded UNC Wilmington at 10 a.m. on Saturday
morning.
