RICHMOND, Va. – After netting a hat trick in a 4-1 win over Davidson on Oct. 4, senior Luc Fatton of men’s soccer has been named VCU’s Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week.
With the Bobcats playing a high line, Fatton was able to get on the end of through balls for quality scoring opportunities. He now leads the team with five goals and 10 points on the season.
“We had talked all week about me making the runs in behind, so I got a lot of good looks because they were playing so high and I got really good passes from the midfielders slipping me in, so I was really just on the finishing end,” Fatton said. “I think a big part of our success was that we were good in transition and in the counter-attacks, and caught them stepped up high and we got in quickly.”
After playing just three matches in the first 25 days of the season due to various weather cancellations, the Rams have won their last four contests. During the extended break, VCU worked to tighten up its defense.
“We practiced a lot with our defensive shape and making sure we aren’t conceding easy goals,” Fatton said. “I think we made a lot of progress in that which then allows us now to focus more on the attack now that we have that core piece down.”
VCU returns to action on Oct. 11 with a match against Saint Louis at Sports Backers, with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
Player you model your game after: Well my favorite player is Karim Benzema, but I don’t play very much like him. I would say a player I try to model my game after, or that I watch a lot, is Edinson Cavani because of the runs he makes.
Favorite place to eat in Richmond: Can Can (a French restaurant in Carytown).
Favorite thing about VCU: The diversity. Especially with our team, with all the different languages, people from all over the world. The way we get along is cool.
Last movie that you watched: Against my will, Avengers 2.
Go-to pregame song: Filous – Knots (feat. klei)
