Richmond, Va.- Five VCU men's soccer players were selected to the NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region teams, a number of all-region selections that is tied for the most in the country with Notre Dame, New Mexico and Connecticut. The five all-region selections are also the most in school history.
Sophomore defender Dennis Castillo was named to the first team, while junior forward Kharlton Belmar was received second team recognition. Junior Juan Monge Solano, senior Romena Bowie, and sophomore Devon Fisher were all named to the third team.
"With team success comes individual recognition. With that in mind, congratulations are in order for the five players who were honored by the NSCAA today as all-region selections," said VCU Head Coach Dave Giffard. "Certainly those five were deserving of this honor, and even though we were tied for the most all-region recognitions in the country, I thought there were a few other guys who could have easily been recognized also."
Castillo scored six goals and registered 13 points on the season. He was named to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week and Atlantic Ten player of the week in September. Because he was named to the first team, he is eligible to be chosen for All-American status.
Belmar led the Rams in goals (8) and points (18). He was named to the first team All-Atlantic 10. Bowie was also named to the first team All-Atlantic 10, while Fisher and Monge Solano were selected to the All-Atlantic 10 second team.
