Ritchie Duffie, Jr., Midfielder, Virginia Beach, Va.
THE FACTS: Duffie had a massive impact on the Rams' start of conference play, totaling two goals and one assist over the weekend against Massachusetts and Rhode Island. VCU is now 2-0 to start the Atlantic 10 slate. The points were Duffie's first of the season, helping the Rams outscore their opponents 7-1 over the past two games.
ON HIS MENTALITY LAST WEEKEND: My mindset was to relax and contribute as much as possible. Getting the first goal was a challenge, and it gave me a hunger to score more goals and put my teammates in a better position to find the back of the net. I hope to score many more goals throughout the rest of the season.
ON PLAYING WITH HIS BROTHER, DEVON: I love playing along side my brother. We used to play on a club team and in high school together, and we always had a great chemistry. We expect a lot out of each other; he pushes me to be my best and I do the same for him.
ON HIS ROLE OFFENSIVELY: My job as an attacker is to cause as many problems for the other team as I can. Whether I am giving out assists or scoring goals, it is important to play hard and support my teammates the best I can.
ON HOME GAMES AT SPORTS BACKERS' STADIUM: Playing at home is always great, and cannot be taken for granted. Having friends and family support me at the game never gets old, and the awesome support of the band helps as well. They may be the most loyal in the country.
STARTED PLAYING SOCCER: I started to first play soccer at the age of five. My grandmother initially pushed me to become involved, though I did not start taking it seriously until I was around 13.
PRE-GAME RITUALS: I don't really have any pre-game rituals. I try to stay calm before the game begins, and not over-think things too much.
ON LIFE AFTER VCU: I would like to become a professional soccer player, but would also want to pursue federal law enforcement if it does not work out.
ON HIS JERSEY NUMBER (#16): I was number 28 last year, and wanted to switch to 14 because my favorite player is Thierry Henry, and he wears that number. Because 14 was taken, I went with the next best number, 16.
IF HE COULD GO ANYWHERE FOR A WEEK WITH TWO PEOPLE, WHERE WOULD HE GO, AND WITH WHO: If I could go anywhere for a week, I would want to go to England, and, I would bring my grandmother and my brother with me.
FAVORITE FOOD: Pizza
BIGGEST FEAR: Spiders
SOMETHING PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW ABOUT HIM: I can be shy at times.
FAVORITE HOBBY OUTSIDE OF SOCCER: I like to hang out with friends and relax.
