RICHMOND, Va. – The VCU Men's Soccer team continued to garner postseason awards after one of the best season's in school history. On Tuesday, freshman Dennis Castillo was named to CollegeSoccerNews.com's Freshman All-America Team.
"It was great to see a player like Dennis recognized again in the post season awards for what he accomplished this year," said VCU Head Coach Dave Giffard. "As a true freshman, to not only be named captain by your peers, but to receive Freshman All-American honors is quite an accomplishment."
Castillo, a defender, scored six times and recorded 12 points, while helping the VCU defense post six shutouts this season. He was also a perfect 3-for-3 on penalty kicks.
The San Jose, Costa Rica native was named to the Atlantic 10 Second Team and All-Rookie Team following the regular season.
