FORMER VCU STANDOUT DOMINIC ODURO CALLED UP TO GHANA'S NATIONAL TEAM

RICHMOND, Va. – You make your own luck. That has been the formula for former VCU standout Dominic Oduro over the last year.

In 2011, Oduro put together his finest professional season in MLS, scoring a team-high 12 goals, playing in 33 matches and drawing 29 starts for the Chicago Fire.

Oduro's performance caught the eye of those watching back home in Ghana, as this week he earned his first ever appearance with Ghana's Senior National Team, the first such appearance at any level of Ghana's Football Association for Oduro.

The Accra, Ghana, native was called up to the Black Stars, the Senior National Team for Ghana, for this Wednesday's match at PPL Park in Philadelphia against Chile.

"It's really exciting for me," said Oduro to Chicago Fire Team Writer Jeff Crandell from Fire preseason camp in Charleston, S.C. "I think as a player its one of your dreams to play for your country. Being called upon is something I've been looking forward to for a long time and it really feels like one of my dreams coming true."

Oduro played for VCU from 2004-05, where he earned CAA Player of the Year honors and garnered third team All-America recognition.
