RICHMOND, Va. – VCU freshman defender Juan Monge Solano picked up Virginia Sports Information Director's All-State Rookie of the Year and first team honors on Thursday, while sophomore forward Jason Johnson was named to the VaSID second team. The VaSID teams are voted on by sports information directors from across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The recent honors brings the total number of postseason honors for Monge Solano to seven. The San Jose, Costa Rica, native has been named to the All-CAA first team, All-CAA rookie team, College Soccer News All-Freshman second team, Soccer America All-Freshman second team and NSCAA Division I All-South Atlantic Region second team.
Monge Solano put together an impressive first season with the Black & Gold as he finished third on the team in points with 11 (five goals, one assist). Monge Solano helped the VCU defense garner three shutouts and post a 1.17 goals against average.
Johnson (pictured right) picked up his third postseason honor of 2011 after leading the team in points (23), goals (11) and game-winning goals (three). The Saint Anne, Jamaica, native had a pair of two goal performances on the season, with those coming in matches against USC Upstate and High Point.
Johnson's other honors from this season were All-CAA second team and NSCAA All-Region third team honors.
