RICHMOND, Va. - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released its 2010-2011 Team Academic Awards recently and VCU had both its men's and women's team honored.
A total of 787 teams from Divisions I, II and III earned the accolade after posting a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2010-11 academic year. VCU was one of 153 schools to have both its men's and women's soccer teams earn the accolade.
VCU Head Coach Dave Giffard's team finished the 2010-11 academic year with a 3.15 grade point average. The Black & Gold were one of five men's teams from the Colonial Athletic Association to receive the award.
The women's soccer program, under the direction of Co-Head Coaches Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak and Tim Sahaydak, produced a team grade point average of 3.12. The Rams were one of eight teams from the CAA to garner the award.
Of the 787 teams that received the distinction, 219 were men's teams and 568 were women's teams.
