RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University men's soccer program received some good news on Tuesday as their contest against High Point University on October 28th has been selected as the NSCAA College Game of the Week on FOX Soccer Channel.
This is the seventh season that Fox Soccer Channel has carried the NSCAA College Game of the Week. VCU's match against High Point is one of just 12 men's collegiate matches to be broadcast by Fox Soccer as part of the NSCAA Game of the Week programming; the 2011 season also includes eight women's collegiate broadcasts.
"Having our game with High Point selected as a game of the week by FSC is very exciting for everyone involved in our program," said second year head coach Dave Giffard. "To be selected as one of the 12 men's collegiate games speaks to the perception of how far we have come in the last year. We can't wait to show a national audience what VCU Soccer is all about."
This marks just the second official meeting between the Rams and Panthers in program history. The first meeting came in 1984, with VCU earning a 1-0 victory over High Point.
In 2010, the Rams garnered a second-place finish in the Colonial Athletic Association regular season and earned a spot in the CAA conference tournament for the first time since 2007. The Rams had five student-athletes named to the All-CAA Men's Soccer Teams, plus two more named to the CAA Men's Soccer All-Rookie team.
Fans who miss the match will be able to view NSCAA College Game of the Week telecasts on-demand via FoxSoccer.tv, Fox Soccer Channel's broadband video service.
