RICHMOND, Va. – VCU will open the 2017 Maui Jim Maui Invitational against Marquette on Monday, Nov. 20 at 2:30 p.m. (EST) on ESPN2, tournament officials announced Tuesday.

The Rams, helmed by first-year Head Coach Mike Rhoades, will play either Wichita State or California in the second round on Tuesday, Nov. 21. VCU will meet one of four possible opponents from the other side of the bracket on the tournament's final day on Wednesday, Nov. 22, a group that includes LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame and host Chaminade. All Maui Invitational games will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.

VCU is 2-0 all-time against Marquette, but the two schools have not met since the 1986-87 season. The Golden Eagles return three starters from last year's NCAA Tournament squad and are coached by Steve Wojciechowski.

The Black and Gold will be making its second all-time appearance in Maui. The Rams finished 1-2 in the 1986 Maui Invitational, then called the Hawaiian Airlines-Silversword Classic.

Hosted by Chaminade University at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, the Maui Jim Maui Invitational, now in its 34th year, is known as one of college basketball's premier non-conference tournaments.

VCU is coming off its seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016-17. The Rams return All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection Justin Tillman and welcome a number of new faces, including heralded transfers Issac Vann (Maine) and Khris Lane (Longwood).
