RICHMOND, Va. – VCU's Atlantic 10 Conference Championship defense will be televised.
At present, the Rams are scheduled to make, at a minimum, six appearances on ESPN's family of networks during the regular season and could appear as many as eight times on one of the sports broadcast giant's platforms. CBS Sports Network will televise eight VCU A-10 contests, while NBC Sports Network and American Sports Network will carry two games apiece. Additional regional and local television coverage will be announced at a later date.
In all, A-10 schools are set to appear in a league-record 108 TV contests. Every Atlantic 10 member will play on national TV at least eight times. In addition, all 13 games of the A-10 Men's Basketball Championship at Pittsburgh's CONSOL Energy Center will be carried on national television.
VCU kicks off A-10 play on Friday, Dec. 30 at George Mason. CBS Sports Network will carry that telecast. The Rams' A-10 home opener against UMass on Jan. 7 at 1 p.m. will air on NBC Sports Network.
On Wednesday, Jan. 11, VCU will host 2016 Postseason NIT Champion George Washington at 6 p.m. at the Siegel Center on ESPN2. The Siegel Center and ESPN2 will also showcase the Rams' Jan. 27 match-up with A-10 regular season co-champ Dayton. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 9 p.m.
The Black and Gold will continue their heated home-and-home series with cross-town rival Richmond. VCU hosts the Spiders on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. CBS Sports Network will have the call. On Friday, Feb. 17, the Rams return to the Robins Center, the site of VCU's thrilling overtime victory in 2016, for a 9 p.m. ESPN2 tilt.
Critical road contests with Rhode Island (Feb. 25) and Dayton (March 1), televised by ESPN or ESPN2 and CBS Sports Network, respectively, await the Rams near the end of the regular season.
The Rams will finish their A-10 schedule the way they began, with George Mason. VCU will host the Patriots on Saturday, March 4 in a game that will also include Senior Day festivities.
