BRANDENBERG, GUEST SET TO JOIN GLOBAL SPORTS ACADEMY FOR NINE-DAY EUROPEAN TOUR
RICHMOND, Va. – For the third time in three years, HAVOC is going global.
This time, rising senior Rob Brandenberg and rising junior Jarred Guest will embark on a nine-day exhibition tour of Germany and the Czech Republic with a team from Global Sports Academy. The tour is set for Aug. 11-19.
Brandenberg and Guest will team up with eight other student-athletes from Division I and II programs for the trip. The squad will be coached by California (Pa.) University Head Coach Bill Brown. Brown, a mentor and former coach of VCU's Shaka Smart, will lead the 10-member squad in five contests against European competition.
This will be the second time in three years a VCU duo has joined Global Sports Academy. Darius Theus and Troy Daniels participated in a similar exhibition tour in the summer of 2011. Brandenberg and Guest were also part of VCU's exhibition tour of Italy prior to last season.
Joining Brandenberg and Guest will be Joseph Lococo (Shippensburg), Earl Brown (St. Francis), Carson Desrosiers (Providence), William Morgan (Fairmount State), Chris Williams (California (Pa.) University), Fortune Tynell (California (Pa.) University), Demetrius Treadwell (Akron) and Reggie McAdams (Akron).
One of four Rams to average double figures last year, Brandenberg poured in 10.4 points and grabbed 2.7 rebounds per game. The Cincinnati, Ohio native needs 117 points to become the 33rd member of VCU's 1,000-point club.
Guest played in 35 of VCU's 36 games last year, logging 10 minutes a night while posting averages of 2.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per outing. The Columbia, S.C. native posted his first career double-double last season with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a home win over Stetson on Nov. 28.
