RICHMOND, Va. – A familiar face will rejoin the VCU Men's Basketball coaching staff. Head Coach Shaka Smart announced the addition of Jesse Bopp to the Rams, he will take over Director of Basketball Operations duties. Bopp served as a graduate manager during the 2009-10 campaign, Smart's first season at VCU.
"We're excited to add Jesse to the staff," Smart said. "He brings terrific energy and will be a great relationship builder at VCU."
Bopp will handle the Rams' day-to-day operations, overseeing team travel, scheduling, practice schedules and much more.
"The chance to return to VCU and work for someone who I consider a mentor is something for which I am truly appreciative," Bopp said. "What Coach Smart has done at VCU is unprecedented, and I am eager and humbled to begin working for him, his staff, the players and all those involved with VCU basketball."
Bopp rejoins VCU after spending three seasons as the Head Basketball Coach and Assistant Dean of Students at Vermont Academy. During his three years, the Wildcats posted a 48-43 record, including three straight NEPSAC playoff appearances. He coached six All-New England selections and helped facilitate the development of numerous players that are currently playing at the collegiate level.
In addition to his time in Richmond, the New Hampshire native was a graduate assistant on Billy Donovan's staff at the University of Florida during the Gators' 25-win season in 2008-09.
Bopp played his college basketball at Plymouth State University, graduating in 2007 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. During his year at VCU, Bopp also earned his master's degree through the Center for Sports Leadership.
