RAMS CONCLUDE INAUGURAL A-10 SEASON WITH SOLD-OUT END OF THE YEAR BANQUET
RICHMOND, Va. – The Jefferson Hotel has served as the host for a long list of celebrities and plenty of historic events.
On Monday night, it again served as the host for the eighth annual end of the year banquet for the VCU men's basketball team. The sold-out event commemorated the Rams inaugural season into the A-10 that saw the Black & Gold reach the conference championship as well as the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season. The Rams finished with 27 wins or more for the fourth consecutive season.
"This was a night for everyone involved with our program to truly celebrate the accomplishments of this team," Head Coach Shaka Smart said. "It was a tremendous event that really allowed all of us from the players to the coaches to the fans to the support staff to try and reflect what took place over the past six or seven months."
With help from his coaching staff, Smart then handed out the team awards with the winners being:
Most Improved – Treveon Graham
Most Assists – Darius Theus
Leading Rebounder – Juvonte Reddic
Ram Strength Award – Darius Theus
Defensive Player of the Year – Briante Weber
Appreciation Award – David Hinton
G.O.A.T (Greatest of all time) – Troy Daniels
Havoc Award – Darius Theus
Leadership Award – Darius Theus
Most Valuable Player – Treveon Graham/Juvonte Reddic
The evening was wrapped up with a year-end video before pictures, autographs and handshakes were exchanged with everybody in the room.
"It's just one way to thank the best fans in the country for their support all year long," Smart said.
