RICHMOND, Va. - One of Coach Smart's favorite quotes is one that came from his wife, Maya, "Appreciation is the currency of success."
Appreciation was exactly what Sunday afternoon was all about at the Target at Forest Hill as the VCU Basketball program hosted its third annual "Shop with the Rams" event with 50 kids from the local Boys & Girls Club.
"It's really a great experience for us as players to take time away from basketball and classes and help put some smiles on these kids faces," junior Rob Brandenberg said. "During the season, it's so easy to lose sight on how privileged we are to have such unbelievable support as players and student-athletes and it's nice to have an event like this and help us put things in perspective and think about what's really important in life."
Players, coaches and athletic department staff members spent escorting the children around the Target, shopping for family and friends with $100 Target gift cards for each child. After the shopping, the group spent time playing games, eating pizza and just enjoying time getting to know each other.
VCU would like to thank its sponsors that made this event possible. Many thanks to Target, Prosperity Mortgage, James Limousine, Rebkee, The Law Office of SpottsFain, Gregg and Bailey Certified Public Accountants, Papa John's and Verizon Wireless.
