RAMS GARNER ATTENTION IN PRE AND POSTSEASON POLLS
RICHMOND, Va. – The 2011-12 college basketball season came to a close on Monday night, but the VCU men's basketball team is still garnering national attention for yet another historic season and even brighter future.
After posting a school record 29 wins and making a run to the Round of 32, VCU earned a spot in the CBSSports.com Final Top 25 poll of 2011-12. The Black & Gold were slotted 19th after taking down Wichita State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and falling just two points shy for a second straight trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
With only one departing senior, Head Coach Shaka Smart and the Rams are looking forward to another exciting season in Richmond and the national media already has its eyes on the Black & Gold for next year.
ESPN.com came out with their early preseason poll and placed the Rams 22nd, while CBSsports.com has the Black & Gold slotted for #23.
Leading VCU next year will be the rising seniors Darius Theus and Troy Daniels, who started the 17 games of the 2011-12 campaign at the guard spots. Daniels set a record for three-pointers in a season with 94, while Theus ranked among the top-three in the CAA in assists (4.7) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1).
