BRANDENBERG EARNS SPOT ON CAA ALL-ACADEMIC SQUAD

RICHMOND, Va. – From the day he took over the reins of the VCU Basketball program, Head Coach Shaka Smart stressed the importance of academics.

That emphasis was evident on Thursday night when sophomore guard Rob Brandenberg earned a spot on the CAA All-Academic squad at the conference's annual banquet.

Brandenberg, who is studying interdisciplinary studies at VCU, has twice earned the CAA Commisioner's Award and twice been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes with a grade-point-average of at least 3.0.

The Gahanna, Ohio native has been just as good on the court, averaging 8.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game for the Black & Gold, who enter this weekend's CAA Tournament as the second seed.

He has scored in double-figures 12 times this year, including a season-high 21 against UNCW in a crucial 63-59 road victory.
