On behalf of VCU Athletics, I want to thank you for your tremendous support of the Rams this season. Without a doubt, VCU fans are the best in the CAA, as we’ve seen this season at the Siegel Center.
As we prepare for the second half of the season, we would like to make you aware of a change that will take effect this year regarding the 2012 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship. In recent years, VCU has been fortunate to receive more than 50 percent of the club tournament ticket books for our fans to purchase. In an effort by the CAA to level the playing field, the league will now distribute the club level ticket books evenly to all CAA schools that express interest in purchasing them. This change will greatly affect the quantity of club seats we receive from the CAA, and it is expected that donors with less than 300 Ram Athletic Fund priority points will not receive club seats.
The change in club seat allocation will also have an effect on our reserved seating fan block. We are anticipating an increase in the number of VCU fans that will not qualify for lower level seating at the Richmond Coliseum. VCU cannot guarantee lower level seating for the championship and be aware that VCU Athletics has a strict no refund policy for the CAA Tournament. Based on orders from last year, donors with 40 Ram Athletic Fund priority points and below received upper level tickets. While it is hard to forecast for this year’s tournament, we anticipate that donors with 60 RAF priority points and below will receive upper level tickets at the Richmond Coliseum.
Current Priority Point Total:
The CAA will continue to assign a VCU fan block based on the league standings through mid-February. Tickets for the tournament will be assigned based on the priority point system and will be assigned accordingly within our fan block.
Popularity of the CAA Tournament has increased dramatically in recent years, and demand for tickets has followed suit. VCU is thrilled that Cthe conference championship is played right here in Richmond and we want to continue to provide the Rams with the best possible atmosphere while they pursue the title. Winning the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship would punch our ticket to the NCAA Tournament and we need your support cheering on the Rams!
On Monday, Jan. 9, fans can begin to order championship tournament books. You will receive an email on Monday with information on how you can go ahead and reserve your spot. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
