RICHMOND, Va. – If the 100,000+ fans that piled into the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center wasn't enough proof that the city of Richmond loves the Rams, the readers of Richmond Magazine tried to solidify that claim.

Virginia Commonwealth University men's basketball Head Coach Shaka Smart and former Ram Larry Sanders were honored in the magazine's "Best & Worst" issue that hit newsstands in early August.

Smart was chosen as the reader's choice for "Best Local Sports Coach", while Sanders edged out teammate Joey Rodriguez for "Best Local Sports Athlete".

After guiding the Black & Gold to a 27-9 mark and the CBI Championship in just his first season as the head coach, Smart continued his success in the off-season by landing one of the best recruiting classes by a non-BCS school in the country.

Sanders became the second straight Ram to be taken in the 2010 NBA Draft when the Milwaukee Bucks picked him with the 15th overall selection. He led the team in points and rebounding, while earning his second consecutive CAA Defensive Player of the Year award and First-Team All-CAA honors.
