RAMS EXPECTED TO CONTEND FOR A-10 TITLE

RICHMOND, Va. – The VCU Golf team has been selected second in the Atlantic 10 Conference's Preseason Poll, the league announced Thursday.

The Rams, who captured three straight league crowns from 2014-16, placed fourth at the league championship in 2018.

VCU received 104 points in the preseason poll, which was conducted among the league's head coaches. The Rams earned two first-place votes. Defending champion Davidson claimed the top spot in the poll with 118 points, which included nine first-place votes. Richmond (100) finished third, followed by Dayton (89) to round out the top four.

The Rams, who kicked off their season Feb. 10-12 at the Martin Downs Collegiate in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., return All-Atlantic 10 Conference standout Kristin Tannum Donaldson (Buckinghamshire, England). Tannum Donaldson, a sophomore, placed second at the Martin Downs Collegiate last week.

VCU, led by 20th-year Head Coach Matt Ball, also returns junior Alston Newsom (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore Sachin Kumar (Valsayn, Trinidad & Tobago), who placed seventh the 2018 A-10 Championship. The Rams also welcomed a talented quintet of freshmen in the fall.

The 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship will be played April 26-28 at The Villas at Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla.
