VCU TABBED SECOND IN ATLANTIC 10 PRESEASON POLL

RICHMOND, Va. – The Rams are in the hunt for a conference championship again. At least, that's how Atlantic 10 coaches feel. On Friday, league coaches picked VCU to finish second in their annual preseason poll. The consensus is that it will be a competitive race to the 2018 Atlantic 10 Championship.

The Rams garnered 107 points in the poll, just two behind Dayton (109). The Rams collected one first place vote. Richmond placed third in the poll with 104 points. Dayton and Richmond each collected five first place votes.

George Washington (91), Davidson (69) and Rhode Island (51) rounded out the top five.

VCU, which won three straight Atlantic 10 Conference Championships from 2014-2016, placed second at the league's championship last season to Richmond.

The Rams return starters Alister Balcombe and Osama Khan from last year's squad and have added standout freshman Kristian Tannum Donaldson, who led the team in scoring average (71.92) during the fall season.

VCU opened its spring season by claiming the A-10 Match Play title for the second time in three years on Feb. 20 in Weston, Fla.

The Rams return to the links March 5-6 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C.
