The short story: Alister Balcombe was VCU's top finisher again this week, as the junior recorded a 27th-place effort at the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters Golf Course in Eatonton, Georgia. VCU tied for 14th in the team standings. 

FIRST TEE

  • Balcombe faded a bit Tuesday (76), but his opening rounds of 69 and 71, respectively, kept him in contention for a top 15 finish for most of the tournament. It was the third time this season Balcombe has been the Rams' top finisher.
  • Senior Hanish Nagrani card a 1-over 73 Tuesday and tied for 60th.
  • Senior Jamie Clare recovered from a slow start and shot a 1-under 71 in Tuesday's final round. He was 13-over for the tournament and placed 73rd. Teammate Enej Sarkanj was 75th.
  • VCU was 28-over for the tournament and finished with 892 strokes.
  • Fourth-ranked Baylor rolled to a team title at 33-under. Eighth-ranked Virginia (-18) and  20th-ranked Georgia (-11) placed second and third, respectively. Troy (-10) and Alabama (-7) completed the top five.
INSIDE THE SCORECARD
  • Balcombe's first-round 69 was his fourth sub-70 round of his young VCU career. He fired a pair of 67s last week at the Seminole Intercollegiate.
  • VCU recorded three eagles in the tournament, including a pair of Sarkanj.
  • Nagrani finished in the top 10 in the field in par 5 scoring. He was 7-under on those holes this week.
  • Balcome averaged 2.92 strokes on par 3 holes in the tournament.
