The short story: Senior Jamie Clare continued his hot recent play with a 6-under performance to lead VCU at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate, the Rams final fall event.
 
FIRST TEE
  • Clare, who fired a blistering 5-under 67 in Sunday's second round, capped his effort with a 71 on Monday to earn a share of 10th place, his highest finish of the fall campaign.
  • The two-time All-Atlantic 10 golfer was coming off a 4-under, 15th-place finish at the Bank of Tennessee at Blackthorn Oct. 14-16. Clare has finished in the top 16 of three of his past four events.
  • Junior Errol Clark, who earned the sixth start of his VCU career this weekend, responded with a personal-best 68 in Monday's final round and tied for 35th overall.
  • VCU placed 8th behind Clare and Clark, besting league foe Davidson, Kansas State, Virginia Tech and others along the way.
  • No. 20 Duke (-30) slipped past Iowa State (-26), as well as Northwestern and Liberty (-25) for the team title. N.C. State (-24) rounded out the top five.
  • Alister Balcombe and Enej Sarkanj tied for 49th for VCU.
INSIDE THE SCORECARD
  • The Rams' performance was bolstered by a second round effort that was one for the record books. VCU combined to shoot a 12-under total of 276 Sunday, which is tied for the fifth-lowest in program history.
  • As a team, VCU shot 2-under on par 3 holes, second-best in the field.
  • Clare and Balcombe each recorded an eagle during the tournament.
  • Clark recorded 39 pars, the second-highest total in the field.
