The short story: Senior Jamie Clare fired five birdies in Tuesday's final round on the way to a 4-under 68 to lead VCU at the Janney Invitational. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after heavy rains caused a five-hour delay during Monday's first round.

FIRST TEE
  • Clare, who opened with an even-par 72 on Monday, really found his groove Tuesday. He opened his day with a birdie on hole No. 14, then vaulted up the leaderboard with a stretch of four birdies in nine holes late in the round. He recorded just one bogey.
  • Hanish Nagrani also slipped under par for VCU Tuesday. He carded a 2-under 70 and tied for 45th with teammate Alister Balcombe at 4-over.
  • Junior Enej Sarkanj sank a hole-in-one for the Rams on No. 14, a 174-yard par 3.
  • VCU (+21) placed 13th overall in the tournament.
  • Virginia Tech (-28) cruised to a 10-stroke win over defending champ James Madison. East Carolina (-16) placed third, followed by Boston College (-11) and Charlotte (-8).
  • Virginia Tech's Joey Lane defeated James Madison's Ryan Cole on the sixth hole of a sudden-death playoff for individual medalist honors.
