FIRST TEE
  • Senior Jamie Clare carded a 4-over 76 in Tuesday's final round and tied for 49th overall at The Invitational at the Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
  • Clare finished 6-over (73-73-76=222) for the 54-hole event, firing back-to-back 73's during Monday's opening rounds.
  • VCU, the three-time defending, Atlantic 10 Champions placed 15th overall in a competitive field.
  • Middle Tennessee State (-14) claimed the team title by six strokes over Mississippi (-8). Maryland (-5) and Georgia Southern (-4) rounded out the top four. Augusta's Jake Marriott (-9) earned individual medalist honors.
  • VCU newcomer Alister Balcombe placed 54th after weathering an 81 on Tuesday. But the decorated junior college transfer showed flashes of what made him a two-time NJCAA All-American at Iowa Western on Monday when he opened with rounds of 72 and 70.
  • Freshman Alston Newsom fired VCU's lowest round of the tournament, a second-round 68 on Monday. He placed 56th overall.
  • Hanish Nagrani and Osama Khan rounded out VCU's top five in 63rd and 88th, respectively.
INSIDE THE SCORECARD
  • Balcombe and Nagrani both recorded 38 pars over 54 holes, the sixth-most in the field.
  • VCU was at its best on par 3 holes. The Rams averaged 3.15 strokes in those opportunities, sixth-best.
  • Newsome (2.92) and Balcombe (3.00) were also both among the individual leaders in par 3 scoring.
