Former Ram Jens Fahrbring captured his first European Challenge Tour title this weekend when he earned a three-stroke victory at the Norwegian Challenge.
Fahrbring, who picked up All-CAA honors from 2005-07 for VCU, carded a final round 66 Sunday to hold off a host of challengers at Losby Golf and Country Club in Oslo, Norway. Fahrbring surged into the lead with a blistering 10-under 62 during Saturday's third round.
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Fahrbring was named a Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar for VCU in 2006. He led the Rams to a pair of runner-up finishes at the CAA Championship, placing sixth overall in 2006 and fourth in 2007.
Now 29, Fahrbring's pro career is beginning to hit its stride. In his first full season on the Challenge Tour, equivalent to the PGA's Web.com Tour, Fahrbring also placed third last week at the Finnish Challenge. After several years trying to break through professionally, Fahrbring credits a retooled mental approach with his recent success.
"I was battling it out on the Nordic Golf League for a few years and I almost gave up at one point," Fahrbring told EuropeanTour.com. "I told myself, I need to change something or else just quit.
"I was so scared of hitting shots and failing. That was the turning point for me and ever since then I have taken small steps each year, getting better and better so I've been working towards this for the past three years."
