DOBIAS GRABS FIRST ROUND LEAD AT CAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

WILMINGTON, Del. – Junior Marc Dobias (Lausanne, Switzerland) grabbed a 1-shot lead Thursday and has Virginia Commonwealth University in the hunt after the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship at the Wilmington Country Club.

Dobias leads a field of 55 golfers after firing a 1-under par 70 on Wilmington's 7,043-yard, par 71 South Course. He carded four birdies Thursday, including back-to-back birds on Nos. 14 and 15.
 
Behind their junior import, the Rams (+21) are five strokes off the pace set by Georgia State (+16) and four behind defending champion UNC Wilmington (+17). James Madison sits fourth (+22), while Old Dominion (+23) is fifth.
 
The Rams are pursuing their ninth CAA Championship. VCU last captured the title in 2009.
 
Sophomore Matt Ball Jr. (Richmond, Va.) is tied for 16th overall at 6-over, while senior Chase Sargent (Orlando, Fla.) and sophomore Rocky Khara (Sebring, Fla.) are tied for 28th.
 
Second round play at the 54-hole championship continues Friday morning at the Wilmington Country Club. The final round will be held Saturday. Fans can follow live scoring via Golfstat.com.
