RAMS FALL TO RICHMOND IN FIRST-EVER BLACK & BLUE CUP, 4.5-3.5

RICHMOND, Va. –  One of the most heated rivalries in the city renewed itself this weekend, this time on the golf course, as VCU and Richmond played in the first annual Black and Blue Cup.

The Spiders hung on to beat VCU 4 ½ to 3 ½ in the Rams final preparations for the CAA tournament.

"It was a great opportunity for our guys to practice playing down the stretch which we may need at the conference tournament.  Unfortunately we were down in too many matches to pull it out.  We will try to learn something about ourselves from this and turn around the results next time," said VCU head coach Matt Ball.

VCU got individual victories from Marc Dobias (5 &4), Simon Taylor (1 up), and Matt Smith (1 up). Gino Vandenberg picked up the half point by tying his match.

The Rams will have the weekend off before heading to Wilmington, Del. to compete in this year's CAA Championship starting on April 27th.
