Incoming men's golf junior Marc Dobias has a busy summer schedule and recently showcased the skills that caught the eye of VCU Head Coach Matt Ball.

Dobias recently competed in the British Amateur Championship at Hillside and Hesketh in England, advancing to the final 16 of match play. Players qualify for one of 64 match play spots through 36 holes of stroke play. Dobias shot 74-71 June 13-14 to advance.
During the match play stage, Dobias scored a pair of narrow, 19th-hole victories over George Thacker of England in the round of 64 and Landyn Edwards of New Zealand in the round of 32, respectively. In the round of 16, Bryden Macpherson of Australia eliminated Dobias, 2 and 1.
Dobias isn't done playing championship-level golf this summer, however. He will also represent Switzerland at the World University Games Aug. 12-23 at Mission Hills in Shenzen, China. The event, played every other year, is sponsored by the International University Sports Federation. This marks the second time golf has been included in the Games.
A native of Lausanne, Switzerland, Dobias has spent the last two years stateside while attending Midland Community College in Midland, Tex. Originally a Baylor University recruit, Dobias helped Midland reach the NJCAA Division I Championship each of the last two seasons.
