BALL, SARGENT PACE VCU AT ROD MYERS INVITE

DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman Matt Ball Jr. (Richmond, Va.) and junior Chase Sargent (Orlando, Fla.) placed 32nd and 40th, respectively to pace Virginia Commonwealth University at the Rod Myers Invitational.

The Rams placed 12th at the 54-hold event, held on the par 72, 7,136-yard Duke University Golf Course. VCU booked a three-round total of 896, 32-over par. Iowa, ranked 13th, captured the overall title with a score of 851. N.C. State (856) was five strokes back, followed by Charlotte (860), Michigan (861) and host Duke (866).

Ball carded a 2-over 74 on Tuesday and finished 5-over (76-71-74=221) for the tournament. Sargent was two strokes off Ball's pace at 7-over (75-75-73=223).

Freshman Rocky Khara (Sebring, Fla.) turned in his best effort of the season with a 54-hole total of 225 (76-76-73). He tied for 44th.

The VCU Golf team will return to the links for its final action of the fall Oct. 23-24 when it heads to the Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. for the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate.
