NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU Field Hockey had nine student-athletes earn All-Atlantic 10 honors as announced by the conference Thursday afternoon.
Litiana Field was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Second Team as well as the All-Rookie team where she was joined by fellow freshmen Sasha Elliott, Janne Wetzel and Mackenzie Williams. In addition, Bentley Zabicki was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team.
McNamara tied for the Division I lead in goals per game as she scored a VCU record 25 goals during the regular season. McNamara led the Atlantic 10 in goals scored and in total points with 53. In addition to her 25 goals, she also had three assists.
McNamara was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week or Co-Player of the Week four times and was named the NFCHA National Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19. It marks her third All-Atlantic 10 First Team selection and her first A-10 Offensive Player of the Year nod. She has also been selected to play in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game.
Pereira made an immediate impact during her lone season at VCU, finishing tied for second on the team with seven goals and also adding four assists. She had 29 total points on the season. It marks the second All-Atlantic 10 First Team selection for the graduate transfer.
Maite Sturm earns her first All-Atlantic 10 First Team honors after being named to the All-Rookie squad last season. Maite led the team with 10 assists, a mark that tied her for third in the A-10. She also scored seven goals to give her 24 total points on the season, the seventh-most in the A-10.
Svea Sturm rounded out the All-Atlantic 10 First Team selections after being named All-Atlantic 10 Second Team last year. She scored two goals and added three assists on the season as she contributed all over the field for the Rams.
Field was named All-Atlantic 10 Second Team and All-Rookie after her inaugural campaign. Field scored four goals and ranked second on the team with eight assists. She was also a key component on the defensive end for the Rams.
Sasha Elliot. Janne Wetzel and Mackenzie Williams were placed alongside Field on the All-Rookie Team. Elliot made 58 saves on the season and posted four shutouts. She had a 1.45 goals against average and a .690 save percentage. Wetzel scored a goal and added two assists as a defender. Williams scored on goal and added one assist. All four All-Rookie Team members started every game for VCU.
Zabicki was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team as she holds a 3.89 cumulative GPA while majoring in business. Zabicki has previously been named an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction as well as to the Dean's List and VCU's Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Zabicki started every game for VCU and scored one goal while adding three assists.
