NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Emily McNamara has been named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Player of the Week for the third time this season and Litiana Field was named the A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week. The conference announced the awards on Monday afternoon.
McNamara scored four goals and added an assist in two games for the Rams. She scored a hat trick, her third consecutive, and added an assist against Richmond as VCU defeated the Spiders 7-2. McNamara followed that up by scoring the second goal of the game in VCU's win over No. 11 ODU on Sunday in Norfolk. Last week, McNamara was named the A-10 Player of the Week as well as the NFHCA/Longstreth National Offensive Player of the Week. She currently leads the nation in goals per game (2.00) and points per game (4.33).
Field earns her first A-10 honor after scoring one goal and adding three assists on the weekend. Field recorded three assists, all in the first half, against Richmond on Friday to help VCU to that 7-2 win. She scored the game-winning goal in the win over No. 11 ODU on Sunday in the 58th minute on a penalty corner after her shot deflected into the goal off an ODU defender. It was VCU's first win over a ranked opponent since a win against No. 17 Iowa in 2009.
VCU is on a four-game winning streak and travels to face St. Francis (Pa.) on Sept. 28.
