NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU Field Hockey senior Emily McNamara was selected as the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference Monday afternoon after a record breaking performance.
McNamara scored seven goals and added two assists in just two games against Saint Louis and Towson. McNamara broke VCU's all-time record for career goals and total career points with her first goal against Saint Louis. McNamara passed Kelsey Scherrer (2009-12) who previously held both records. It also marks the second time this season she has earned the weekly honor as she was named A-10 Co-Player of the week on Aug. 27.
McNamara scored a career-high four goals against Saint Louis in the A-10 opener for the Rams and helped lead VCU to a 7-1 victory. McNamara then scored three goals and recorded two assists in VCU's 9-0 win over Towson. The 9-0 win tied for the program's largest shutout victory.
The Rams will host rival Richmond on Sept. 21 at Cary Street Field.
