RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Emily McNamara was chosen as the Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week on Monday. It is the second time the Centreville, Va. native has received the award this season. In a three-day span McNamara scored six goals and added two assists.
On Friday, McNamara tallied three goals and one assist. Her third goal came on a penalty corner in the 85th minute to give VCU a 5-4 win against Saint Francis. The hat trick was McNamara's second on the season.
Two days later she would do it again in a 7-0 victory over La Salle. McNamara got things going with the first goal of the contest coming in the 11th minute. She then converted on a penalty corner to give VCU a 2-0 lead. Her third score of the day came shortly after halftime, putting the game out of reach.
With the win, VCU clinched a top four finish in the conference and a bid to the Atlantic 10 tournament for the first time since 2013.
The two hat tricks bring McNamara to 19 goals on the season. With two games to go, she sits just one score away from the school's single-season record set by Carlot Verlop in 2004. The junior's 46 career goals leave her at second all-time.
