Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week: Emily McNamara

RICHMOND, Va. – Emily McNamara of VCU Field Hockey was named the Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this month. McNamara was also named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week.

McNamara scored six goals and recorded an assist in the Ram's two wins this past weekend. She recorded hat tricks in consecutive games, which led to a 5-1 win over Saint Louis and a 3-0 shutout against Missouri State on senior day.

Along with her two hat tricks, McNamara finished the season with 45 points, which broke the school's single-season record set in 2004 by Carlot Verloop who had 44 points.

"It was pretty cool [to break the record], especially being able to do it my sophomore year. I have confidence that I will be able to score more goals and record more assists in the future," McNamara said.

McNamara also achieved her personal goal that she stated after being named the Athlete of the Week previously in being able to score a hat trick.

"It felt really good. I was trying to get a hat trick all season long and to get two of them was really great. Especially on senior day," McNamara said.
