FIELD HOCKEY PICKED TO FINISH THIRD IN ATLANTIC 10 PRESEASON POLL

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –  VCU Field Hockey was picked to finish third in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Field Hockey poll, released by the conference office on Thursday. The Rams went 10-10 with a 4-3 mark in conference play last fall. 

Defending A-10 champion UMass was the overwhelming preseason favorite with eight first-place votes and a total of 80 points. Crosstown rival, Richmond, is picked to finish second with 72 points and one first-place vote.

Kendell Combs (pictured right), who earned Second Team honors last year, picked up preseason honors. The senior scored six goals and had a team-best 11 assists last season. Sophomore Alexis Schramm also returns after notching eight goals during her freshman campaign, earning her a spot on the All-Rookie squad. 

The Rams open the 2014 season on Friday, August 29 at Drexel at 7 p.m.
