Remembering how far you've come in life is an important thing, and is something the VCU field hockey team is trying to celebrate this August.

On Saturday, August 27th, the Rams will take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a home match at the Cary Street Field.

The contest is slated for 2 p.m. and the Black & Gold are inviting all former VCU field hockey players, coaches, their families and their friends to attend a day full of festivities.

Tailgating will take place after the game, and food and beverages will be provided.

Head Coach Kelly McQuade will then take anyone interested on a campus tour of new buildings, so alumni can take in the changes that have been happening on the Monroe Park campus. Later on in the evening there will be a gathering at Home Team Grill in the Fan.

McQuade thinks showing appreciation to former players is vital and something that should be done often.

"Alumni relations has been an important task that I have taken on the last five years," McQuade said. "I think it is important to honor the women that have forged the path for our current student athletes at VCU.  We have to know our past to create our future!"

Anyone planning on attending the event needs to RSVP to Vic Cegles by calling (804)828-4771 or through email at
